AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)– It was two years ago that a man riding a motorcycle was struck by a driver who ran a red light. Now that man is saying goodbye to his leg which was crushed in the crash.

“It’s going to be two inches from the knee,” said Greg Edwards.

Edwards was involved in a serious crash April 30, 2012. He was driving through the intersection at Chambers and Iliff after his light turned green.

Approximately six seconds after the light went red for drivers at the cross street, a car driven by a young female went into oncoming traffic and struck the 20 year Navy veteran’s motorcycle.

Edwards was thrown from his motorcycle and broke his ankle, femur, needed stitches and even wound up with some broken teeth.

A red light camera captured video and still images of the crash.

The driver of the car that crashed into Edwards was cited.

He doesn’t blame her or feel sorry for himself.

“I’m not going to hold a grudge against anybody. I just thank the man above I’m still alive,” said Edwards.

That driver never admitted to texting or being distracted and proving otherwise is tough.

“It’s not fair,” said Aurora Police Lt. Jeff Turner. “Certainly the one person got more serious consequences than the other. But that’s our judicial system.”

Edwards is hoping his story will send a message to every driver on the road.

“You just need to pay attention when you’re driving. Cause it doesn’t take but a split second,” said Edwards.

He believes his new prosthetic leg will change his life for the better.
